SHREWSBURY RIVALS IN CUP FINAL!!!
Cockshutt ’08 1, Technical Services FC 2 –
Bayston Hill will contest this season’s league challenge cup final with last year’s runners up Technical Services FC. The league leaders faced Cockshutt ’08; Cockshutt had struggled with injuries in recent weeks that have seen them unable to record a win in the league in 2009. Cockshutt however started the brighter, with the wind at their backs they pushed the Technical Services defence very deep, the ball kept hanging up in the air and the battle for possession was all done in the centre of the park. Technical Services defended very well, Cockshutt really only had half chances and Technical Services had a few of their own on the counter attack. The score-line stayed at nil nil going into half time, the second half started with Technical Services pushing for the opener, with the wind now to their advantage, Cockshutt now had to sit deep and go all out defence. Against the run of play Cockshutt managed to counter attack and when an appeal from Technical Services backline for offside was not given it left Allister Lloyd clear through and he finished very well to give Cockshutt the lead on the 55th minute mark. Technical Services left shocked by the recent event had to pick themselves up, the league leaders started to pass the ball to feet and find good space down the wings. Cockshutt then found they had to defend a free kick, Craig Sanders delivered a lofted ball to the back post, after a scramble at the back post, Laurie Bridle stretched out a leg to connect with the ball and pocked it home for the equaliser in the 65th minute. Technical Services buoyant from the goal pushed for the winner, Cockshutt defended very well against the wind and hoped for a break on the counter attack. With the tie looking to go into extra time, Kevin Price stole the ball away from the Cockshutt left back, Kevin weaved space in the 18 yard box and calmly passed the ball to strike partner Nick Best. Nick got the ball under control and rifled the ball into the roof of the net giving the Cockshutt keeper no chance and leaving no time left in the game for Cockshutt to get back into the tie. Technical Services setup a cup final with local Shrewsbury rivals Bayston Hill and will know turn their focus to the John Davies Cup semi final in two weeks.
