FOUNTAIN PAY THE PRICE!!
Fountain Sports 0, Technical Services FC 1 (After extra time)-
The Shropshire Alliance League fixtures were dominated by the John Davies Memorial Cup quarter finals & there was plenty of action to talk about across the county’s matches! Fountain Sports welcomed league leaders Technical Services, both Shrewsbury based sides & both in good form at present. Fountain Sports really took the battle to Tech Services, putting every Technical Services’ player under pressure and shooting on site of goal. Some long range shots tested the Services’ keeper; Technical Services still had chances of their own and with the Fountain Sports’ keeper also up to the task at hand, the game was looking like it would be won in midfield. Half time came with the scores level at nil-nil and Fountain Sports having the better of the first half. Technical Services started the brighter in the second half, strikers shooting on site, putting pressure on the Fountain Sports back four and going back to basics. But Fountain Sports looked threatening on the counter attack and were also creating chances of their own. Kevin Price had the ball in the net before full time for it to be cancelled out with a dubious offside decision. But both keepers and defenders were in fine form. Full time came and Technical Services had the better of the second half going into extra time. Both sides really lacked that finishing touch and with both sides’ strikes going high and wide the game looked certain for penalties. Craig Williams then found space out on the right wing, crossed the ball to the far post and found un-marked Kevin Price who finished brilliantly from a bicycle kick. With the minutes ticking away the tried legs of Fountain Sports pushed for an equaliser but it was all a little too late as the league leaders just scraped through into the semi finals.
Well, a win's a win!! This had to be the most frustrating game I’ve ever watched, worse than the lose in the league at Oswestry, worst than the lose at Weston Rhyn in the cup, we had bare bones out in both those fixtures (not that that's any excuse) and I felt the side we put out today was very good quality. To be fair the Fountain Sports team are a good side, take nothing away from them, they love a good battle, but we just were not up for it today and got dragged down to their level. At times we panicked with the ball, resorted to the long ball tactic and just not doing the simple stuff like we did last week!! Hopefully the lads will take notice from this game and pick it up for the same fixture next week but in the league. We can't afford to drop points in the league; we're 8 points clear and need to keep it going. COME ON BOYS WERE BETTER THAN THIS - GO OUT NEXT WEEK AND PROVE IT!!
